DESCRIPTION
This week’s stream was a small portable set that had drifted out of focus. The recording is being edited, so for now here is the frame we grabbed before the adjustments.
The fix itself was simple: a gentle turn of the focus pot on the flyback, then a degauss to clean up the colour purity.
What to watch for
- The focus pot on the flyback and how little it needs to move.
- Purity patches before and after degaussing.
- Why we keep one hand in a pocket near the tube.

Did you check the ripple on the 5V rail before and after? Curious how much it moved.
Nice work. For anyone reading: the service manual is on page 14 of the archive scans.
Agreed, and thanks for adding the page number.
Good question. We measured it and it dropped by about half after the recap.

Rosin flux from a jar, cleaned with isopropyl straight after.

Which flux did you end up using? The no-clean stuff left a haze on my last job.
I tried this last winter and skipped the discharge step. Do not skip the discharge step.
Same here. Seems like the whole production run had it.
Came for the repair, stayed for the tangent about the manual layout.
The sound on this one still gives me goosebumps.
