Mould on a floppy is not the end, but reading it in a good drive can be. Spores transfer to the heads and then to every disk after it.
The rescue order
- Photograph the label before anything else.
- Open the shell and clean the media with isopropyl.
- Image the disk in one pass and verify the checksums.
You get one good read. Make it count and never put that disk back in a drive you care about.

We open the shell, clean the cookie by hand and read it once in a sacrificial drive, imaging the result straight away.

I tried this last winter and skipped the discharge step. Do not skip the discharge step.
Rosin flux from a jar, cleaned with isopropyl straight after.
Same board revision as mine, and the same two caps had leaked. Must be a batch thing.
Parts list is going into the next post, promise.

Came for the repair, stayed for the tangent about the manual layout.
