Big Buck Bunny Trailer Through a Cheap Upscaler
DESCRIPTION
Cheap upscalers promise to make old sources look modern. We fed one the Big Buck Bunny trailer at its native resolution and recorded what came out of the HDMI side.
It is watchable, but the deinterlacing leaves combing on every fast pan. For retro consoles we still prefer a line doubler with proper scanline emulation.
What to watch for
- Combing artefacts on the opening pan across the meadow.
- Lag between the audio and the picture on scene cuts.
- The soft edge-enhancement halo around the bunny.

Good call on labelling every screw. I learned that the hard way.
Same here. Seems like the whole production run had it.
This takes me straight back to Saturday mornings at my cousin’s house.
